Closing the gaps in child protection

Strengthening child safeguarding for every child's right to safety.

All funds go directly toward supporting the Maya’s Law campaign, including launching the official petition, marketing content for awareness, outreach to MP's, professionals and public, and supporting other families in this crisis.

What is
Maya's Law?

Maya’s Law is a comprehensive proposed legal reform that is designed to close dangerous gaps in child safeguarding. It responds  to failures where children, like Maya Chappell, Star Hobson, and Arthur Labinjo-Hughes have suffered preventable harm due to lack of communication and accountability among professionals.

Maya’s Law would:

  • Mandate information-sharing between key services when concerns reach critical thresholds

  • Enforce accountability for professionals who ignore safeguarding obligations

  • Protect children in informal/private care situations often hidden from oversight

  • Support national data collection and raise awareness of  non-sexual, non-domestic abuse risks

Why do we need Maya's Law?

Current safeguarding systems are failing to protect vulnerable children — often with devastating consequences.

  • Over 50% of Serious Case Reviews cite communication failures as a primary cause

  • Existing laws do not cover abuse or neglect outside of sexual or domestic violence

  • There is no legal duty to act on signs of harm that fall into grey areas — leaving children exposed

  • Children are slipping through the cracks due to fragmented systems and informal care arrangements

Maya’s Law is urgently needed to save lives, ensure accountability, and prevent future tragedies.

Support & Information

Protecting Children Starts With You — your concern could be the lifeline they need!

Worried about a child?

Every child deserves to be safe, seen, and heard. You don’t need to be certain, you just need to care enough to act.

If something doesn’t feel right — trust your instincts. Whether it’s a child in your family, your community, or someone you’ve only encountered briefly, you don’t need to be certain.

Don’t wait for “proof.” Waiting can cost a life.

What You Can Do:

  • Speak to the child’s school, GP, or local authority

  • Call your local safeguarding team or child protection services — anonymously if needed

  • Contact the NSPCC helpline: 0808 800 5000 (UK)

  • Crimestoppers (0800 555 111)

  • Call 101 police

  • In emergencies call 999

You are not overreacting. You might be the one person who makes the difference.
